Mamata Banerjee has denied the allegation of Shumita Deb, the daughter of Manna Dey that her government did not help the family during bad times.

PODIUM

Honouring Manna De as Bengal’s pride, Mamata Banerjee has said: "There is no substitute of Manna De."
"I met him last at Bangalore to personally hand over the ‘Bisesh Sangeet MahaSamman’ award to him. That time I offered him to come to Kolkata and stay with us. He was happy to hear this and expressed his desire to do so. But it could not happen."
- Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister, West Bengal

Front SHELF

I pleaded with (Mamata) government and it did not recognise our pleas.

Clarifying on the issue, Mamata Banerjee writes in a facebook post:
"Even after his demise, I spoke to his family members and requested for bringing his body by special flight to Kolkata, at least for 24 hours, to pay our last respect to the legendary singer and then perform the last rites at Bangalore as desired by the family.
But this again could not happen.

PASSAGEWAY

"I pleaded with Mamata Banerjee to help solve a case involving my cousin who siphoned off cash and jewellery from my father's bank locker. This would have helped me foot large bills of Narayana Hrudalaya Hospital. I pleaded with (Mamata) government and it did not recognise our pleas. In that case, how shall I honour her words (to bring the body to Kolkata)."
- Shumita Deb, the daughter of Manna Dey
