No one prempted the next bonanza, the moment UP CM Akhilesh Yadav issued Guidelines on accepting Gifts to his minister. The very next day he delivered a surprise gift. It’s not just limited to his ministers only, but for all the MLAs of state.
UPDATE: Following sharp criticism across state the government withdrew the the decision the very next day.
“Despite a financial crisis, the SP government has fulfilled all the promises it made in the party manifesto in the budget. MLAs are allowed to purchase vehicles up to Rs. 20 lakh from their local area development fund.”
Akhilesh Yadav, Chief Minister, UP
A report appeared in TOI says:
Yadav justified his move by saying that there are many MLAs who cannot afford a car but they have to move around in their constituencies to meet people and solve their problems… The elected members should buy a car for monitoring development work.Article continues below the advertisement.
